Gas Prices and Solutions to Them

As I'm sure everyone is aware, gas prices have become insanely high! Rumors are that the prices should hit 5.00 per gallon before July 4th. If anyone comes from a large family, they are constantly on the road, picking up and dropping off their children. This quickly rises to over 20 dollars per day in gas. Our economy is in a recession, making money harder to get and worth less. So how can save our valuable money by conserving gas?

Option 1: Convert your car to run on vegetable oil.

Note: This option only works for diesel engines.

You may know that diesel cars will run on petroleum diesel or biodiesel fuel. But did you know that they can also run on straight vegetable oil? You won't ever have to worry about buying gas again! Visit http://www.ehow.com/how_2004136_vegetable-oil-fuel.html for a simple 5-step guide on how to convert your engine to run with vegetable oil.

Option 2: Use Other Methods of Transportation

One of the simplest ways to save on gas is to use other methods of transportation! I'm sure we could all use a little bit of excersize, and there are several ways to get around and save gas and help out the mileage on your car!

  • Walk
  • Ride a bike
  • Catch a bus
  • Jog
  • And many more!

Option 3: Carpool

Carpooling is a great solution for everyone. If there are empty seats in a car, fill them up! If you give someone a ride one day, they will be obligated to give you a ride when you don't want to spend 20 bucks on gas! Carpooling to work is a great idea because you will only have to pay for half of the gas you are used to buying.

Option 4: Avoid Traffic Jams

You may think that stopping and going over and over again doesn't do anything to your car, but you are terribly wrong. This is terrible for your gas and your mileage! If you know there will be traffic jams at certain places and times, simply avoid those roads. If you do end up caught in one and you know you won't be moving for over 2 minutes, just turn off your car. It's worth it.

Option 5: Slower Acceleration

When you are pulling out from a red light, don't slam on the gas as hard as you can just to get fast quickly. How hard you press on the gas is directly related to how much gas you are pumping to the engine. If you lightly press down and gradually increase your speed, you can save gas and still get just as much speed.

Here are a few other simple solutions: Remove extra weight in the car, Use cruise control to maintain a constant speed, and staying under 60mph will all help to increase your mpg.
